Southern love on Valentines day

16 Feb

Saint Valentine is the patron saint of lovers – from what I can gather he defied Roman rulers and refused to give up Christianity. It is also believed that his time in jail caused him to befriended the jailers daughter, and signed a note to her ‘from your Valentine.’

Valentine died on the 14th of February 269 A.D – ever since we exchange modest gifts of love, simple poems, keepsakes and flowers to the one we love or admire in secret.

Here was my keepsake to the boyfriend, a little embroidered frame of 60’s candystripe material and Manchester United blood red stitching that reads ‘Southern love.’ (As I am, indeed a Southerner.) For this I used a wooden Anchor embroidery hoop. I thrifted the fabric scrap from Abakhans fabric shop (Manchester branch.)
